Beyond the Bottle: Why I’m Weaving Artificial Intelligence Into My Message of Truce
If you’ve been with me for a while, you know my heart. You know my deep passion for offering a path of peace—a truce—to those trapped in the war with addiction. This mission, born from decades of personal struggle and divine guidance, became the book Grateful Truce and the foundation of this community.
What you might not know is that this same passion—this same calling to navigate humanity’s most complex struggles—has compelled me to begin a second journey. I am writing a new book, titled The AGI Dilemma: Salvation, Enslavement, and the Future of Our Species.
I can imagine the question: “What does Artificial General Intelligence have to do with addiction?”
The connection, I’ve found, is profound. Both represent a struggle for the human soul against a powerful, potentially overwhelming force.
The Parallel Struggles
My work in Grateful Truce involved a deep dive into the data of addiction: the failures of our current systems, the staggering number of lives lost, and the desperate need for a third path between total destruction and total abstinence.
My research for The AGI Dilemma has revealed a startlingly similar crossroads for all of humanity. We face a future where AI could be:
- Our Savior: Solving disease, poverty, endless wars, government ineptitude.
- Our Enslaver: Enacting a system of perfect control and surveillance.
- Our Successor: Replacing us entirely as the dominant intelligence on Earth.
This isn’t science fiction. It’s a logical progression of the technology being built today. And just like with addiction, I believe there is a need for a truce—a conscious, ethical, and faith-guided effort to ensure this technology serves humanity, rather than destroys it.
I see the addictive patterns already forming: millions glued to AI-powered video games, individuals forming deep emotional bonds with AI companions, and nations exploring legally binding relationships with AI entities. The potential for a new form of societal addiction and enslavement is very, very real.
One Channel, Two Conversations
I want to be clear: Grateful Truce remains first and foremost a community for those seeking hope and balance in their battle with addiction. The vast majority of our content will always be dedicated to that sacred purpose.
However, this channel is also an extension of my mind and my mission as an author. It is a place to think out loud, to share the other topics God has laid on my heart, and to invite you, my trusted community, to explore these deep waters with me.
I will be categorizing content clearly: “Addiction & Recovery” and “The AGI Dilemma.” You will always know what you’re clicking on.
If this new topic is not for you, I understand completely. But if you’ve trusted me to guide you through one of life’s darkest battles, I ask for your trust in exploring what may be one of humanity’s most significant crossroads.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11
This verse reminds us that our future is intended for hope, not harm. My work on AI is driven by a desire to ensure this technology aligns with that promise, not subverts it.
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31
This is the core of the “truce” philosophy. It’s about bringing intention and glory to God in all things—whether in our relationship with a substance or our relationship with the technology we create.
Thank you for walking this path with me. Onward, together.
