“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”
— Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
Life doesn’t come with a blueprint. It’s a relentless series of challenges, pain, setbacks, and unexpected turns—yet somehow, by God’s grace, we keep moving forward.
The Book That Almost Never Happened
For the last five months, I’ve poured my soul into “Grateful Truce”—a book challenging the rigid, one-size-fits-all approach to addiction recovery. The manuscript is done. Beta readers love it. The message is clear, urgent, and necessary.
But then came the hard truth of publishing:
- To get a major publisher, you need an agent.
- To get an agent, you need a hook—something that makes them believe in you.
- And if you’re not already famous? You’d better prove demand—with social media followers, email lists, and early buzz.
The Social Media Trap
Here’s where I froze.
Thirteen years ago, I ran a popular blog on politics, current events, and preparedness. And what did I learn?
- Social media is a cesspool of anger, censorship, and inhuman cruelty.
- The loudest voices aren’t the wisest—just the most hateful.
- It drove me to self-destructive coping mechanisms just to numb the toxicity.
So I walked away. Deleted everything. Chose peace.
And it was the best decision of my life…
Until Jesus tapped me on the shoulder this past April and said:
“Chris, you need to be of service. Take what you know—and help.”
I fought Him. “Lord, I like my quiet, happy and wonderful married life!”
But the tapping didn’t stop.
So here I am—back in the arena, trying to discuss addiction, recovery, and societal collapse with alcoholism as a main driver, with wisdom and grace… only to be met with:
- “How dare you suggest moderation!”
- “You’re leading people to relapse!”
- “We can’t talk about this!”
- “Did you not know we can not discuss, politics, religion, or anything controversial!”
The Modern Dilemma: How Do We Communicate Without Losing Our Souls?
COVID broke something in us. We forgot how to talk.
- Bars? Now you’re a “creep” if you strike up a conversation.
- Public squares? Everyone’s glued to their phones.
- Honest debate? Canceled before it starts.
- Since when did Jesus become illegal?
And yet—addiction is worse than ever.
- Have we drunk less since Facebook and YouTube took over? No.
- Are more people trapped in isolation, despair, and substance abuse? Absolutely.
Why should I Debate this at all Today?
I woke up exhausted.
- I didn’t want to write this blog.
- I didn’t want to edit another YouTube video.
- I didn’t want to engage with the anger machine, (I had no idea had bad tumbler can be).
So I prayed:
“God, how do You keep loving us? We are so fallen. How is THIS my purpose now?”
And the answer came:
“Persevere.”
Tomorrow, We Fight Again
Today, I vent. Tomorrow, I’ll get back to the five important topics I wanted to discuss.
But for now, I leave you with this:
- If you’re tired of the noise, you’re not alone.
- If you’re fighting for truth in a world that hates nuance, keep going.
- If you’ve been wounded by the addiction industry’s failures—there is another way.
“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
— James 1:12 (NIV)
Your Turn
- Have you walked away from social media?
- Do you see the same decay in how we communicate?
- How do you persevere when the world feels like it’s losing its mind?
Comment below. (And yes, I’ll read them—even the angry ones.)
Like, share, subscribe—if this resonates. Tomorrow, we keep fighting.
