WHY I WROTE THIS DANGEROUS BOOK
A Letter to the Weary Warrior
If you’ve ever:
• Sat through an AA meeting thinking “There must be another way”
• Paid thousands for rehab only to relapse again
• Lied about being “allergic” to avoid drinking questions
• Wondered why God made wine if He wants you miserable
• Felt suffocated by sobriety even while “working the program”
…this book is my rebellion. My lifeline. My truce.
At 42, I’d done everything “right”:
✓ 7 years in AA (5+ sober—collecting chips but losing myself)
✓ $15,000 rehabs (that treated me as a billing code)
✓ Sponsors’ endless “don’ts” (from men who’d never lived my sober life)
I was the recovery poster child—and I was dying inside.
Then came the dangerous question:
What if Jesus wants to be my sponsor, not my parole officer?
This isn’t another addiction memoir. It’s the raw testimony of:
1. The Fall
- From functioning professional to rehab inmate
- 90 days in treatment hell (where “healing” felt like punishment)
2. The Awakening
- Walking away from AA’s absolutes (but keeping its wisdom)
- 5 sober years proving I could quit—and the loneliness no one discusses
3. The Experiment
- Intentional drinking: weeks, then months of sacred moderation
- Discovering God in a craft beer (yes, really)
4. The Toolkit
- 100-day sobriety tests (your annual rebellion against thirst)
- The “Three-Legged Stool” rule (never drink angry, lonely, or tired)
- Cross-stitching my way to sanity (and other unorthodox lifelines)
I won’t promise miracles. I’ve still:
• Woken up puking in parking lots
• Sworn off tequila (until next Cinco de Mayo)
• Bargained with God through hangovers
But here’s what changed:
✔ I drink less
✔ I regret it less
✔ I live more
This book is for those tired of choosing between:
☒ Absolute sobriety (and its quiet despair)
☒ Drunken oblivion (and its consequences)
There’s a third way. It’s messy, personal, and fiercely optimistic.
Welcome to the Grateful Truce.
